“अथ योगानुशासनम् ” is the first sutra of Patanjali Yoga Darshan and it has a clear message to us that discipline in thought, speech and action is first step towards the spirituality of the yoga philosophy. In our country, Yoga is a culture which brings us the good health, harmony, peace and skilled mind.
The Yoga Department of Ranchi University, Ranchi was established on 19th December, 2017 with Choice based credit system mode of two-year Post-Graduation in Yoga course comes under vocational course. The vision behind this course was to follow Indian Ancient Education system with a combination of ‘Modern Scientific approach’. and the emphasis is on hands-on-practical experience and in-depth research in the field of Yoga.
The global demand of well-trained and skilled Yoga experts is high. UGC has started NET/JRF examinations and Ayush Ministry, Govt. of India has started QCI level examinations for Yoga students. I wish success to our students to achieve goal.
“ योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ” a shloka of Shrimad Bhagawat Gita (2/48) reveals the philosophy of our life by saying “Excellence in any kind of work, comes out through Yoga”. Yoga is journey of life or it may be said as a journey of our Mother Nature where we all living things live together with a quotation “Vasudhaiw Kutumbakam” Practicing yoga helps in the integration of an individual's mind, body and soul. It develops a discipline in our physical and mental status.
As a course, Yoga is one of the most contemporary subject. Not only it makes our mind and body fit but also has immense job-oriented capacity. I wish a prosperous future and career for our students.

Post-graduation in Yoga program is based on CBCS and divided in four semesters. Aim of the program to teach and prepare students through various holistic orientations of Yoga by exhaustive theoretical and practical practices. The pedagogical design of the syllabus is highly competitive and research based. Skill development of yoga students develops the chance of their employability and start-up activities. It enables female students to start-up their own Yoga Centres at home and earn money and a good lifestyle.
Post-graduate Diploma in Yogic Science program is based on CBCS and divided in two semesters. The aim of this course is to promote physical and mental health through Yoga practices. Integral approach to Yogic Science trains students in such a way that their personality development and Scientific attitude efficiency increase in day to day life. The P.G. Diploma certificate holder can become a good Yoga teacher at any school and organization or establish yoga centre anywhere in the world and can earn while serving the mankind.

The word “vinyasa” can be translated as “arranging something in a special way,” like yoga poses for example. In vinyasa yoga classes, students coordinate movement with breath to flow from one pose to the next.
Ashtanga means “eight limbs” and encompasses a yogic lifestyle. Like Vinyasa yoga, the Ashtanga yoga asanas (postures) synchronize breath with movement as you move through a series of postures.
Iyengar yoga is alignment in the asanas using breath control through pranayama. This style of yoga is usually taught without music and at a slower pace designed to assist students to get deeper into the postures.
